Roopa Ganguly Arrested: Former Rajya Sabha member and BJP leader Roopa Ganguly has been arrested. According to Kolkata Police, Ganguly has been arrested on charges of obstructing the work of policemen.
The BJP leaders had been protesting outside a police station in south Kolkata since Wednesday October 2 night, demanding the release of local woman BJP leader Ruby Das. Das was among the BJP supporters arrested on Wednesday October 2 evening.
Know what is the whole matter
Actually, road repair work was going on with the help of JCB in Bansdroni area of Kolkata on Wednesday October 2 morning. The student was a resident of ward number 113 of the municipality. It is alleged that while going to the coaching center, the student was hit by a JCB and crushed. The student suffered serious head injuries. He was admitted to the hospital, but he could not be saved. Local people said that despite the accident, TMC’s local councilor Anita Majumdar did not reach the spot. People insisted on calling the councilor to the spot immediately and started protesting.
Police had to face protest
On receiving the information, police reached the spot and tried to convince the people. Later, when Assistant Commissioner of Kolkata Police Pradeep Ghoshal arrived, he also had to face protest. Meanwhile, Kolkata Police arrested 5 people on charges of obstructing government work. BJP alleged that Kolkata Police has selectively arrested party leader Ruby Mandal and her supporters.
When former Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly came to know about this, she reached Bansdroni police station and sat on a dharna outside the police station demanding justice. By late night, a crowd of BJP workers and supporters gathered outside the police station. Roopa entered the police station and BJP workers started protesting outside. BJP said that Ruby Mandal was taken into custody without any complaint. While no accused has been arrested in the case of the student’s death. Roopa said, I will stay in the police station all night. I will sit here until the accused are arrested. After this, the police took action and arrested Ganguly.
What did Rupa Ganguly allege
Ganguly claimed that Das and other BJP supporters were protesting peacefully when local Trinamool Congress workers attacked them. She also alleged that the police arrested the protesters instead of taking action against the attackers. Ganguly sat on a dharna all night and was finally arrested by the Kolkata Police around 10 am on Thursday. She was soon taken away from the Bansdroni police station premises in a police vehicle. After the arrest, Ganguly alleged that the police did not even allow her to carry her bag. At the same time, according to the police, Ganguly has been arrested for obstructing the work of the policemen.
