The police has filed a 4175-page chargesheet against 208 accused in six cases of violence that took place on November 24 during the Sambhal Jama Masjid survey. Four of these cases were registered in Sambhal Kotwali and two in Nakhasa police station. Four people died in the violence and several policemen were injured.
The police on Thursday February 20 , 2025 filed a chargesheet in the court in six of the cases registered in the violence that took place on November 24 during the survey of Sambhal Jama Masjid. The police have filed a 4175-page chargesheet against 208 accused in these six cases. Out of the four chargesheets, four are from the cases registered in Sambhal Kotwali and two are from the cases registered in Nakhasa police station.
On November 19, 2024, the court of Civil Judge Senior Division Aditya Kumar claimed that the Jama Masjid of Sambhal was a Harihar temple. On the same day, the court appointed Ramesh Singh Raghav as the court commissioner and he surveyed the mosque in the evening.
After this, when the court commissioner arrived to survey the mosque again in the presence of DM and SP at 7.30 am on November 24, there was a ruckus. Four people lost their lives in the violence and a large number of police personnel were injured. Seven FIRs were registered in the ruckus regarding this.
In which five FIRs were lodged in Kotwali Sambhal and two in Thana Nakhasa. On Thursday, the investigators of six cases filed a chargesheet in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Archana Singh.
Chargesheet not filed in the case filed against MP Burke
In one of the cases filed regarding the riot, Sambhal’s SP MP Ziaur Rahman has also been named. Police did not file a chargesheet on Thursday in the case filed against the MP. Police say that the MP had filed an application in the High Court regarding these cases. In line with the High Court’s order, the police is taking the opinion of legal experts in this case.
