The encounter between the Maoists and police has been going on in the forests of Keshkutul in Bhairamgarh area near Dantewada and Bijapur border since morning. Twelve Maoists were killed in the encounter. Three DRG personnel were killed in the encounter while two others were injured and sent to hospital for treatment.

The number of Naxalites killed could rise as a major search operation continues in the jungle. The team had left Dantewada this morning where an encounter took place between the soldiers and the Naxals at Keshkutul in Bhairamgarh on the Bijapur border. Intermittent firing from both sides.

A huge quantity of weapons and ammunition including ALR rifles, .303 rifle have also been seized from the encounter site, Bastar IG Sundararaj Pattalingam said. The dead Maoists are being identified. Two Bijapur DRG personnel have been killed in the operation. The deceased are Principal Reservist Monu Wadari, DRG, Reservist Dukaru Gonde, DRG, Jawan Ramesh Sodi, DRG.

Joint operations have been stepped up in districts like Sukma, Bijapur and Dantewada once again after the conducive environment created for the surrender of all Naxalites including Barse Dewa, Paparao and Kesa of the battalion amidst the crackdown against Naxalism in Bastar.

In the past few days, there was talk of surrender of Paparao, Kesa and Chaitu, including Deva, after which Chaitu had surrendered with 10 others in Jagdalpur. Even after this, security agencies maintained a favorable atmosphere in the forests for the surrender of all the Naxalites, including Deva. Under this, operations in the forests and any kind of activities were not carried out.

However, despite the favorable atmosphere of 15 days when there was no reaction from the battalion regarding the surrender and after losing contact with the surrender from the battalion, the operation has once again been intensified on the direction of the agencies.

Earlier, the DKSZC member had abandoned the red corridor along with nine others and surrendered to the police. Bastar IG Sundarraj P. said that the Naxalites are constantly disintegrating, suffering from the hollow ideology of the Naxalites and are now slowly becoming aware and preparing their comrades to surrender. As a result of this, DKSZC member Chaitu alias Shyam Dada along with 9 of his colleagues have surrendered.

Chaitu, alias Shyam Dada, who had worked shoulder to shoulder with the Naxalites in the Darbha division for many years, surrendered. With this surrender, the Darbha division became even weaker. Speaking to reporters, Chaitu Dada, alias Shyam, explained that he came into contact with the Naxalite medical team during his college days and went underground in 1985.
