Raipur: Heerabai Jhareka Baghel of Chhattisgarh has been selected for the National Handicraft Award 2023 for her outstanding contribution in the field of handicrafts. This award is given by the Office of Development Commissioner Handicrafts Textiles Ministry, Government of India. Mrs. Baghel is a famous craftswoman of Dhokra Bellmetal craft.
According to the notification, five Shilp Guru ( Master craftsperson ) and 18 National Handicraft Awards have been given for 2023. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has congratulated and wished craftsperson Heerabai Jhareka Baghel for bringing the laurels to Chhattisgarh.
Dhokra Bellmetal craftswoman Mrs. Heerabai Jhareka Baghel of Vananchal Gram Panchayat Baigindih of Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district of Chhattisgarh has already made her mark with her artistry. Mrs. Baghel has been awarded by the Government of Chhattisgarh in the field of Bellmetal Crafts in the year 2011-12. Her husband Minketan Baghel was also honored by the Government of Chhattisgarh in the year 2006-07. Shilpi Hirabai Jhareka Baghel, selected for the award, said that my father Bhulau Jhareka and husband are my source of inspiration, who taught me Dhokra bell metal art and inspired and encouraged me to move forward.
