Earthquake: US agency claims 1000 people feared dead in Myanmar, severe shortage of blood in hospitals

Thailand, Myanmar Earthquake Death Toll: A powerful earthquake of 7.7 magnitude struck Myanmar and Thailand on Friday, causing many buildings, bridges and roads to collapse. In this horrific disaster, at least 144 people have died in Myanmar and more than 730 people have been injured. At the same time, information has come to light that 10 people have died in Thailand.

The earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand on Friday (28 March) has caused massive destruction. In Myanmar alone, more than 140 people have died in the earthquake. Hundreds of people are reported missing. More than 700 people have been injured in this earthquake so far. Relief and rescue work is going on at a fast pace. On the other hand, about 10 people have died in the earthquake in Thailand. Myanmar has imposed an emergency after this sudden disaster. The effect of this terrible earthquake has been felt not only in Myanmar but also in the neighboring countries. The earthquake has been felt in five countries including India, China and Nepal.

Earthquake tremors felt in five countries including India
Apart from Myanmar, earthquake tremors were felt in Thailand, China, Nepal and India. Earthquake tremors were again felt in Myanmar and Afghanistan on Saturday March 29 night. Earthquake tremors were felt in Afghanistan at around 5:16 am. The magnitude of the earthquake was 4.7.

USGS claims – 1000 people died

At the same time, the US Geological Survey (USGS) estimates that the death toll could be more than 1,000. There are reports of a huge shortage of blood in hospitals. Relief and rescue operations are going on rapidly in Myanmar, but piles of rubble, broken roads, and collapsed buildings are visible everywhere. It is being told that the number of injured in hospitals is also in thousands. According to the US Geological Survey, the death toll from this earthquake could be more than 1,000. At the same time, according to the government newspaper Global New Light of Myanmar, buildings have collapsed in five cities and several towns, and two major bridges have also collapsed.

Heavy damage in these cities
This devastating earthquake has caused heavy damage to buildings, bridges and roads in Mandalay, Naypyidaw, Yangon and many other cities. But the highest number of deaths have occurred in Naypyidaw. More than 90 people have died from here.

Situation serious in Myanmar, number of casualties expected to increase
The head of Myanmar’s military government, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, said on television that so far 144 people have died in the country and this figure may increase. The epicenter of the earthquake was near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second largest city. After the tremors, several aftershocks (shocks after the earthquake) were also felt, one of which measured 6.4.

The earthquake in Mandalay razed many buildings to the ground, including a major monastery in the city. In the capital Naypyidaw, residential buildings of many government employees were also reduced to rubble, where rescue teams are engaged in evacuating the victims.

Huge shortage of blood

According to the Myanmar government, there is a great need for blood donation in the worst affected areas. There is a huge shortage of blood in hospitals. Hospitals are filled with people injured in the disaster. Myanmar is facing a shortage of medicines and other relief materials in this disaster. The military government has announced to accept foreign aid, while the United Nations has released an aid amount of 5 million US dollars for initial relief work. At the same time, China and Russia have sent rescue teams to Myanmar, President Trump has also talked about American help.

Bridge and monastery collapsed, dam broke

In an online video, it was seen that the monks were recording a video of their monastery Ma Soe Yane on a street in Mandalay, when it completely collapsed. It is not yet clear whether anyone was injured in this accident or not. An organization called Christian Aid said that a dam also broke due to the earthquake, due to which the lower areas of the city are flooded.

High-rise building collapses in Bangkok, 10 dead
The impact of this earthquake was also felt in Thailand’s capital Bangkok. A 33-storey building under construction collapsed here. According to eyewitnesses, as soon as the building collapsed, dust engulfed the entire area, people started screaming in panic and there was chaos on the streets. According to the Bangkok administration, so far 10 people have died in this accident, 16 are injured and 101 people are missing. The Thai government termed it a “terrible tragedy” and said that some people are still expected to be alive.
