Former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala passes away, breathed his last at Medanta Hospital, Gurugram

Om Prakash Chautala was born on 1 January 1935 in Chautala village of Sirsa. Chautala was the CM of Haryana five times. Chautala became the Chief Minister for the first time on 2 December 1989.

Former Haryana Chief Minister and INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala died on Friday December 20 , 2024 . He breathed his last at around 12 noon in Gurugram Medanta. He had trouble breathing, he was undergoing treatment at Medanta for three-four years. On Friday December 20, 2024 , he was brought to Medanta emergency at 11:35 am after his health suddenly deteriorated. Medanta administration has confirmed his death. Doctors have said that the cause of his death was cardiac arrest. His body will be kept for the last darshan at Teja Kheda Farm in Sirsa tomorrow from 8 am to 2 pm. His last rites will be performed at 3 pm.

Om Prakash Chautala was born on 1 January 1935 in Chautala village of Sirsa. Chautala was the CM of Haryana five times. Chautala became the Chief Minister for the first time on December 2, 1989. He remained in his post till May 22 , 1990. On July 12, 1990, Chautala took oath as Chief Minister for the second time, when the then Chief Minister Banarsi Das Gupta was removed from the post within two months. However, Chautala also had to resign from the post after five days. Chautala took over as CM for the third time on April 22, 1991. But after two weeks, the central government imposed President’s rule in the state.

CM Saini expressed condolences

Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini has expressed condolences on the demise of former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala. He has said that Om Prakash Chautala’s contribution to Haryana politics will always be remembered.

Congress National Secretary Mallikarjun Kharge expressed condolences

Congress National Secretary Mallikarjun Kharge wrote on his x account, ‘The news of the demise of former Haryana Chief Minister and senior leader Choudhary Om Prakash Chautala is sad. He contributed a lot in the service of Haryana and the country. In this hour of grief, we express our deepest condolences to his family and supporters and pray for the peace of the departed soul’.

Haryana Lok Dal was formed after 1996 elections

In 1993, he won the Narwana by-election. After the 1996 Lok Sabha elections, he formed a new party named Haryana Lok Dal (National). In 1998, in the mid-term elections of Lok Sabha, he won five Lok Sabha seats in Haryana by forming an alliance with BSP. After this, his party got recognition. Later the name of his party was changed to Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). On July 24, 1999, Chautala took over as CM for the fourth time. In December 1999, he dissolved the assembly and after the assembly elections, on March 2, 2000, Chautala became the Chief Minister for the fifth time. After that Chautala remained the Chief Minister for full five years.

Passed the 10th examination at the age of 82

Indian National Lok Dal leader and former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala passed the 10th at the age of 82. When the results of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) were released, Om Prakash Chautala passed the examination with second division. The former Chief Minister of Haryana gave the exam from the NIOS study center in Tihar Jail. Along with him, two other elderly students also passed the 10th. Om Prakash Chautala got 55.40 percent marks in the examination. Bhupinder Singh Hooda expressed grief over the death of Om Prakash Chautala
On the death of former Haryana Chief Minister and INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala, former Haryana Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said, ‘They were together for a very long time in Congress politics. We were together in the assembly as well. He has served the people in his lifetime. Right now he was also active in politics. He was a good person. We had good relations. He was in the role of my elder brother.’

PM Modi also expressed condolences
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed grief by posting on his X account. PM Modi wrote ‘I am deeply saddened by the demise of former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala ji. He remained active in the state’s politics for many years and constantly tried to take forward the work of Chaudhary Devi Lal ji. My deepest condolences to his family and supporters in this hour of grief’.
