Governor Ramen Deka graces the Indira Kala Sangeet University Convocation Ceremony

Raipur: Governor Ramen Deka on Thursday January 29, 2026 graced the 17th convocation ceremony of Indira Kala Sangeet University, Khairagarh. At the convocation ceremony, Governor Deka awarded degrees and gold medals to successful students from various faculties.

He said that art, music, and culture guide society. Indira Kala Sangeet University is playing a significant role in promoting the country’s cultural heritage. The Governor urged the students to use their knowledge and art for nation-building and the welfare of society.

Higher Education Minister Tankram Verma and Dharsiwa MLA Dr. Anuj Sharma were present as special guests at the ceremony. Five research scholars were awarded D.Litt degrees. 64 research scholars were awarded research degrees. Medals were distributed to 236 students, including 232 gold medals and 4 silver medals.

Addressing the convocation ceremony, the Governor said that this music university in Khairagarh will be known as Princess Indira Singh Kala Sangeet University. He asked the university administration to complete all the necessary procedures for this.

Governor Deka said that Indira Kala Sangeet University, Khairagarh, has made an unforgettable contribution to the development of fine arts, which are a valuable heritage of Indian culture. Indira Kala Sangeet University, a microcosm of India, is the result of the generous donation of King Virendra Bahadur Singh and Queen Padmavati Devi.

By donating their palace to preserve the memory of their daughter, Princess Indira, these noble souls enhanced the prestige of Chhattisgarh. Art is a vital part of the nation’s life. Music, painting, sculpture, architecture, and literature are directly related to life and society.

In today’s materialistic age, humanity is moving towards mechanisation and insensitivity, and we must stop this. Through fine arts, we can bring joy and richness to human life. The Chancellor congratulated and extended best wishes to the medal recipients and degree holders at the university’s seventeenth convocation ceremony, wishing them a bright future.

Addressing the gathering, Higher Education Minister Tankram Verma said that education is essential for making any country or society civilized and cultured.

Addressing the ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Lovely Sharma said that the convocation ceremony is not merely a ritual of distributing certificates; it is a day for reflecting on achievements and making resolutions for the future.

She expressed pride that the university’s students have showcased their talent not only in the state but also at the national and international levels.

At the end of the program, the Governor unveiled the Princess Sharda Devi Singh Baoli nameplate. This stepwell, located on the university campus, is an ancient heritage site that is being preserved.

The vote of thanks was delivered by the Registrar, Dr. Soumitra Tiwari. The university’s deans, faculty members, officers, staff, and students were present on the occasion.
