Raipur: The fourth convocation of Dau Shri Vasudev Chandrakar Kamdhenu University, Durg, was held on Thursday January 29, 2026 on the university campus in the august presence of Governor Ramen Deka.

At the ceremony, 1,536 students were awarded undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD degrees in the faculties of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry, Dairy Technology, and Fisheries. Forty-five degree holders were awarded the University Gold Medal, and eight graduate degree holders in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry were awarded the Pandit Tirath Prasad Mishra Memorial Gold Medal.

At the convocation, Governor Deka personally presented the degree certificates and gold medals to the students. The State Minister for Livestock Development, Fisheries, Agricultural Development and Farmers Welfare, Biotechnology and Tribal Welfare, Ramvichar Netam, attended the ceremony as a special guest. Also present were Lalit Chandrakar, Durg Rural MLA, Vice Chairman of the Chhattisgarh State Rural and Other Backward Classes Area Development Authority, and Doman Lal Korsevada, Ahiwara MLA, Vice Chairman of the Scheduled Castes Development Authority.

Addressing the ceremony, Governor Ramen Deka congratulated all the graduating students. He said that convocation is not merely an occasion to complete studies, but rather the beginning of a new journey filled with responsibilities in life.

The Governor emphasised that education does not end one day; the process of learning continues throughout life. He noted that India is the world’s largest milk producer, and this sector is a major source of income for rural families, especially women and small farmers. Describing the vital role of animal husbandry and fisheries in Chhattisgarh’s rural economy, the Governor said that today the livestock sector needs to be strengthened with modern technology and scientific methods, rather than merely increasing numbers.

Governor Deka praised the university’s work in preventing infectious diseases and improving breeds. He alerted dairy technology students to the problem of adulteration and urged them to focus on quality so that Indian products can be globally trusted.

The Governor urged them to draw inspiration from Kanker district’s success in the field of fisheries and adopt modern methods.

Governor Ramen Deka urged students not to become mere job seekers but rather job creators, with the commitment to a self-reliant India. He stated that subjects like veterinary medicine and dairy are not merely studies but a means of serving humanity. Appreciating the contributions of teachers and parents, the Governor encouraged the youth to confidently contribute to the country’s development.

State Agriculture Minister Ramvichar Netam, in his address, stated that animal husbandry, dairy, and fisheries play a vital role in Chhattisgarh’s agriculture-based economy.

The state government is providing all possible support to encourage youth to pursue entrepreneurship. Incentives, grants, and training are being provided to startups related to animal husbandry, dairy, and fisheries.

University Vice-Chancellor Dr. R.R.B. Singh presented the university’s progress report. National Dairy Development Board Chairman Dr. Meenesh C. Shah delivered the convocation address. University Registrar Dr. B.P. Rathiya conducted the ceremony.

Present on the occasion were Dr. G.K. Dutta, Director of Research Services, Dr. Girish Chandel, Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur, and Professor Ravi R. Saxena of Mahatma Gandhi Horticulture and Forestry University, along with the university’s graduating students and their parents.
