Important verdict on minority status of Aligarh Muslim University today

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will give an important verdict on the minority status of Aligarh Muslim University today on Friday November 8 , 2024 . The seven-member constitutional bench hearing this case is headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. Who is retiring on November 10, 2024 .

Technically, today is his last working day. This bench of seven judges had reserved the decision on February 1 after hearing the case for eight days. Which will now be pronounced after nine months. The Supreme Court will determine in its decision what will be the criteria for granting minority status to an educational institution under Article 30 of the Constitution. Along with this, the Supreme Court will also decide whether any educational institution established by the Parliament can get minority status under Article 30 of the Constitution!
