He created history when he came out to bat on the third day of the ongoing Chennai Test against India. He became the oldest player from his country in the history of Test cricket. He broke a 16-year-old record by defeating left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafiq.
Former Bangladeshi spinner Mohammad Rafiq played his last Test in 2008 at the age of 37 years and 180 days. He held the record of the oldest cricketer. Now after 16 years, Shakib stepped on the third day of the Chennai Test at the age of 37 years and 181 days and left Rafiq behind.
