Karva Chauth: Wife commits suicide after husband returns late, husband hangs himself in grief

Jaipur: A woman allegedly committed suicide on the night of Karwa Chauth in Jaipur, Rajasthan because her husband arrived home late on Sunday October 20 night night. Shockingly, the tragic incident turned even more horrific when the deceased’s husband also committed suicide by hanging himself allegedly unable to bear the shock of his wife’s death.

The incident reportedly took place after a quarrel between the husband and wife over the husband arriving home late on the occasion of Karwa Chauth. A senior Jaipur police official said on Monday October 21 that the incident took place in Harmara area on Sunday October 20 when Ghanshyam Bunkar (38) returned home late at night and had an argument with his wife Mona (35).

According to the police, Mona left the house in anger at around 12.30 am and Ghanshyam followed her. Shortly after this, the wife jumped in front of a moving train and the husband returned home shocked by her death and he also hanged himself, while both his children were sleeping in a separate room. Before committing suicide, Ghanshyam sent a message on WhatsApp to his brother informing him about his wife’s suicide. Harmara SHO Uday Bhan said that the husband worked in the private sector. He said that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Further legal action is being taken in the case.
