The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a 12-hour bandh in West Bengal from 6 am today in protest against the brutal police action on students who marched to the state secretariat on Tuesday. At the same time, the Mamata government has said that there is no bandh and strict action will be taken against government employees who do not reach the office.
Giving information about the Bengal bandh, BJP President JP Nadda said, “Mamata Banerjee has crossed all limits of ruthlessness and dictatorship in Bengal. Whether it is the brutal murder of BJP workers, the collusion of the government and administration to save the culprit in the Sandeshkhali and RG Kar Medical College case, the dictatorial attitude of the Chief Minister of Bengal has been seen in all the cases.
Mamata is trying to save such criminals, what is her compulsion in this.” The Trinamool Congress government has urged people not to support the BJP’s general strike from 6 am to 6 pm. Chief Minister Banerjee’s chief advisor Alapan Bandyopadhyay said, “The government will not allow any bandh on Wednesday. We urge people not to participate in it. Every step will be taken to ensure that public life is not affected.” Citing the Sandeshkhali incident, BJP National President JP Nadda alleged that the Chief Minister has failed to provide justice to the women of the state. He expressed confidence that people will support the BJP’s bandh call in the state and end her (Mamata Banerjee’s) arrogance.
BJP calls for 12-hour ‘Bengal bandh’
The police resorted to massive lathicharge, water cannon and tear gas shells to disperse the violent mob. BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari claimed that over 160 protesters, including 17 women, were injured in the police action. Condemning the police action on the protesters, BJP’s Bengal unit president Sukanta Majumdar has called for a 12-hour ‘Bengal bandh’ on Wednesday August 28
