Maharashtra: Reacting to the controversial remarks of SP MLA Abu Azmi, Chief Minister Fadnavis said that whoever insults Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj will not be spared.
Regarding SP MLA Abu Azmi in Maharashtra Assembly, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that he will be sent to jail ‘100 percent’. CM Fadnavis made this comment in the Legislative Council, when Leader of Opposition Ambadas Danve asked him a question about the action against Abu Azmi.
Abu Azmi suspended from Assembly for controversial remarks
Let us tell you that Abu Azmi was suspended from the Assembly due to his remarks in which he praised the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The SP MLA claimed that during Aurangzeb’s rule, India’s border reached Afghanistan and Burma (Myanmar) and said that India’s GDP at that time was 24 percent. Along with this, he described the conflict between Aurangzeb and Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his son Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj as a ‘political conflict’.
Abu Azmi was strongly opposed
After this comment, there was a strong protest against Abu Azmi in the assembly and the ruling party members demanded his suspension. Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray also said that any comment against national symbols should not be tolerated and the government should take strict action against such comments. Thackeray also demanded that Azmi be permanently suspended from the assembly.
At the same time, after his controversial comment, Abu Azmi said that he had made this statement outside the assembly, but later withdrew it so that the working atmosphere remains in the house. However, he was still suspended.
CM Fadnavis accused the opposition
Reacting to this, Chief Minister Fadnavis said that anyone who insults Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj will not be spared. He accused the opposition of adopting a double standard on the issue and said that when NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad and former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru made critical comments about Shivaji Maharaj, the opposition did not raise any objection. Apart from this, action was also demanded in the Legislative Council against actor Rahul Solapurkar and former journalist Prashant Koratkar, who are facing charges of making objectionable comments on national symbols. Police have filed a complaint against Koratkar, while Solapurkar is also accused of making objectionable comments against Shivaji Maharaj.
