Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis calls Maharashtra BJP president Ravindra Chavan and Mumbai BJP president Ameet Satam to congratulate them as trends show the BJP leading in the municipal polls

The BJP-Shiv Sena combine leads in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, according to trends. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday January 16, 2026 congratulated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde as well as party workers as trends showed the BJP-Shiv Sena were set to win comfortably in most of the 29 municipal corporations of Maharashtra.

BMC poll results: Winners, losers & what’s nextVote counting for the BMC elections is underway, with the State Election Commission announcing results for 227 wards across the city. The BMC polls conducted on Thursday January 15, 2026 saw a voter turnout of 52.94%, down from 55.53% in the last elections in 2017, officials said.

Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal on Friday January 16, 2026 claimed his party will have Mayors in five cities and around 350 corporators across the State, asserting it would also be part of power arrangements in at least 10 municipal corporations.

According to the Congress, the party is in a position to install its own Mayors in Latur, Chandrapur, Bhiwandi (Thane district), Parbhani and Kolhapur, which were among the 29 municipal corporations.

ISLAM party wins 35 out of 84 seats in Malegaon; AIMIM gets 21
The Indian Secular Largest Assembly of Maharashtra (ISLAM) party has emerged as the single largest outfit in Malegaon Municipal Corporation in Nashik district, trends and civic poll results showed on Friday January 16, 2026.

It has won 35 out of 84 seats in the civic body, while the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) was in second place with 21 seats

Shiv Sena-BJP combine leads in Thane
Shiv Sena-BJP combine emerged as the dominant force in the 131-member Thane civic body on Friday January 16, 2026, winning 50 seats in the home turf of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The Shinde-led Shiv Sena has won 33 electoral wards, and the BJP has won 17, as per official data.
