Congress has suffered its worst performance ever in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. State President Nana Patole offered to resign. Congress got only 16 seats in the assembly elections, which is 28 seats less than the last election. This time the vote share of Congress decreased from 16.1% to 12.42%. However, the party leadership has instructed him to remain in the post for the time being. Patole won the Sakoli seat by a narrow margin of just 208 votes.
