Tahawwur Rana Extradition: Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana is being extradited from America to India. A team of investigative agencies from India is bringing him back after reaching America and completing all the paperwork and legal formalities. Here he can be kept in Tihar Jail.

There is a ‘Chai Wala’ in Mumbai, who is known as ‘Chhotu’ alias Mohammad Taufiq. His alertness saved the lives of many people during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. He said that there is no need for India to provide Tahawwur Rana with a special cell, biryani and facilities in jail, which were given to Ajmal Kasab, one of the terrorists involved in the Mumbai attacks. He also demanded that there should be separate laws to deal with terrorists. Rana is accused of being involved in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Hundreds of innocent people were killed in the attack. Now Tahawwur will be tried in India.

However, the claim of Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab, who was involved in the 26/11 Mumbai attack, asking for mutton biryani in jail was proved to be completely fabricated. Public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam associated with the case himself said that Kasab did not ask for biryani and the government never served him biryani.

Mohammad Taufiq, a tea vendor popularly known as ‘Chhotu Chai Wala’, told ANI, “…there is no need to provide him any special cell in India. There is no need to do anything like Kasab was being given biryani and other facilities. There should be a separate law for terrorists, there should be a system in which they are hanged within 2-3 months.”

Pakistani-Canadian citizen Tahawwur Rana was convicted in the US for helping operatives of banned terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and those responsible for the Mumbai attacks, which killed over 160 people.

Being brought to India from America

Actually, Tahawwur Rana, accused in the 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai, is being brought to India from America on Thursday. Rana used all the tricks to avoid extradition to India, but none of his tricks succeeded in the US courts. Rana’s extradition is expected to expose the role of the Pakistan government in the terror attack. Rana had appealed to the US Supreme Court as a last resort to avoid extradition. The Supreme Court had rejected the petition just two days ago.

Paper and legal procedures completed, taken into custody
A team of Indian agencies had already reached the US to bring Rana to India. After the decision, the team completed the paper and legal procedures for Rana’s extradition with the US authorities and took him into custody. The team will reach India with Rana by Thursday afternoon.

Tahawwur adopted many tricks to avoid coming to India
On 27 February, Rana had filed an emergency application before US Supreme Court Associate Justice and Ninth Circuit Circuit Judge Elena Kagan to stay the pending trial of the habeas corpus petition. Earlier last month, Judge Kagan had rejected the application. After this, Rana filed the application again. It was heard on 4 April and the Supreme Court rejected the appeal. Earlier also, Rana had sought exemption from extradition citing illness and threat to his life in India. During his meeting with PM Narendra Modi in February, US President Donald Trump had announced that he had approved Rana’s extradition.

So he is going back to India.

Rana is close to Headley

Rana, a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, is close to Pakistani-origin American terrorist David Coleman Headley. Headley is one of the main conspirators of the 26 November 2008 Mumbai terror attack. A total of 166 people, including six Americans, were killed in the attack. The attacks were carried out by Pakistani terrorists. Interrogation of Rana is expected to provide clues about Pakistani masters.
