Our future will be secured by conserving water with public participation: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai

Chief Minister Sai attended a workshop on water conservation and water enrichment under “Sujlam Bharat”

Raipur: If there is water, there is tomorrow, and only water will improve tomorrow. We must all work together to conserve water; only then will we be able to secure our future.”

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said this while addressing a workshop on water conservation and water enrichment organised under “Sujlam Bharat” at Omaya Garden in the capital Raipur on Thursday October 9, 2025 . On this occasion, he offered water from a pot and conveyed the message of water conservation.

Chief Minister Sai said that our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep concern about the water crisis on numerous occasions. Lack of public awareness about water conservation can further deepen this crisis. He said that people across the state are making efforts to conserve water in their own ways, and through such platforms, everyone will be able to share their experiences, which will ultimately prove decisive in policy making.

Referring to his visit to Rajnandgaon, Chief Minister Sai said that a woman Sarpanch, on her own initiative, revived dried hand pumps. Her innovative efforts were appreciated by the Central Government, and financial assistance was provided to further this noble initiative.
The Chief Minister said that such examples inspire us. We must all work together to transform water conservation into a mass movement to secure our future. He said that the suggestions and inputs received from this seminar will prove extremely helpful in formulating future action plans.

Chief Minister gave the message of irrigating the earth by offering water from the Kelo River

At the inauguration of the program, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai offered sacred water from the Kelo River into a Kalash, symbolising the earth, and conveyed the message of water conservation and storage. He said, “Water is life,” and our sacred rivers irrigate the earth, making it life-giving. Our culture, civilization, and identity are linked to these rivers.

The Chief Minister said that Chhattisgarh’s rivers—Mahanadi, Indravati, Shivnath, Kelo, and others—are the lifelines of the state. These rivers not only fertilise the land but also provide life-giving energy to agriculture, industry, and every aspect of life. He said that offering water from the Kelo River to the earth-like pot symbolises that we must respect every drop of water and preserve it for future generations.

Chief Minister Sai called upon the public representatives, officials, and citizens present to make this pledge of water conservation a part of their daily routine, so that the land of Chhattisgarh remains lush with greenery and prosperity.

Water Resources Department Secretary Rajesh Sukumar Toppo, while giving information about the program, said that this program has been conceptualised under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Various departments have been instructed to organise seminars on a specific theme. As part of this initiative, the Ministry of Water Power is organising this seminar on water conservation. He stated that over 300 people working in the field of water conservation have registered today.

The government has placed water conservation as a top priority. In the last year, district collectors and related departments have made significant contributions to water conservation. Three and a half lakh structures have been constructed so far, resulting in a significant increase in groundwater levels.

A large number of dignitaries, including Padmashree Phoolbasan Bai Yadav, Secretary of the Urban Administration Department, Dr. Basavaraju S., Secretary of the Public Health Engineering Department, Mohammad Qaiser Abdul Haq, were present at the event.
