Pahalgam: If someone resorts to evil, it is the king’s duty to protect his subjects and he should do his duty – RSS chief Bhagwat

There is anger in the whole country after the Pahalgam attack. Meanwhile, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has talked about teaching a lesson to the terrorists. Speaking at a program in the capital Delhi, he said that our basic religion is non-violence, but some people will not change, no matter what you do.

New Delhi:After the Pahalgam attack, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has said that non-violence is our religion and teaching a lesson to goons is also our religion. We never insult or harm our neighbours but still if someone gets down to evil then what is the other option? The duty of the king is to protect the people, the king should perform his duty. He was speaking at a book release program organised in the capital Delhi. In the program, tribute was paid to the tourists who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack.

During his address in the program, he said that our religion is a religion that gives balance. We have a clear mention here. … Non-violence is our nature, our value. Our non-violence is to make people non-violent. Some people will become (non-violent), some people will go astray… and will go so far as to create disturbance in the world. We are not enemies of anyone. Hatred is not our nature. Ravana was also killed for his welfare. Destruction is not called violence. Not getting killed by the oppressors and teaching a lesson to the hooligans is also our Dharma. In the western way of thinking, both these things cannot go together. There is no such balance there, but we have this balance here.

The duty of the king is to protect the subjects

We never insult or harm our neighbours, but if we live like this and even then someone resorts to evil, then what other remedy do we have? The duty of the king is to protect the subjects and the king will do his duty. There is preaching of non-violence in the Gita, but Arjuna fought in the Mahabharata. He killed people because at that time there were such people in front of him that he had no other remedy.

The need to understand Sanatan Dharma in the right sense

During his address, Mohan Bhagwat stressed the need to understand Sanatan Dharma in the right sense. He said that Dharma is not Dharma until it does not follow the four principles of truth, purity, compassion and penance. He said that whatever is beyond this is Adharma.

He further said that at present we have limited religion to rituals and food habits, like who should be worshipped and what should be eaten and what should not. It is a code… not a principle. Dharma is a principle.

Untouchability nowhere preached in Hindu scriptures
The RSS chief said that Hindu society needs to understand Hinduism, which will be the best way to present its traditions and culture to the world. Untouchability is nowhere preached in Hindu scriptures. No one is ‘unch’ or ‘neech’ (high or low). He said it is never said that one work is big and the other is small… If you see high and low, it is adharma. It is cruel behavior. Mohan Bhagwat said that there can be many religions and each of them can be great for those who follow them. But, one should follow the path chosen by him and respect others.

He further said that do not try to change anyone. There is a religion above religion. Until we understand it, we will not be able to understand religion. That religion above religion is spirituality.

Speaking at the event, Swami Vigyanananda said that his book ‘The Hindu Manifesto’ explains the essence of ancient wisdom, which has been reinterpreted for contemporary times. He said that Hindu thought has always addressed the needs of the present, while remaining firmly rooted in the timeless principles contained in powerful sutras by sages.

‘Hindus never do this’

Speaking earlier on Thursday April , April24,2025 RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had reacted strongly. He had said that Hindus never kill anyone by asking their religion. This fight is between Dharma and Adharma. He said that even Ravana was given a chance to improve first, but when he refused to change, Ram ended him. Along with this, Bhagwat further said that there is sadness in our hearts, we are angry. But to end this evil, strength will have to be shown.

Emphasis laid on unity in society
Bhagwat also stressed on unity in society. He said that if the society remains united, no enemy will be able to harm us. He warned that if anyone looks at us with bad intentions, his eyes will be gouged out. Bhagwat said that violence is not in our nature, but it is also not right to suffer silently. A truly non-violent person should also be strong. If there is strength and if needed, it should also be shown.
