Uproar over Union Minister George Kurien’s remarks
On Union Minister George Kurien’s statement calling Kerala a ‘backward state’ and Suresh Gopi’s remarks, CPI MP P Sandhosh said, ‘George Kurien’s statement is very harmful for Kerala and it is inappropriate for a minister. I don’t know what is the mindset of BJP people. They have not allocated any additional funds to Kerala and they are constantly justifying it. Suresh Gopi and George Kurien have insulted the conscience of Kerala. They should take moral responsibility and resign. He (Suresh Gopi) should resign from the post of minister as this is a clear violation of the oath taken by him. I have given a notice under Rule 267 to discuss this. He is a Union Minister and he is trying to divide people on the basis of caste. This is a serious issue.’
