Physical verification of savings stock of fair price shops — Strict action on irregularities

Raipur: In compliance with the order of the Food Department, physical verification of savings stock of 13,779 fair price shops operating in all the districts of the state was done as on March 31, 2024 .
After this verification, a total shortage of 7,891.73 tonnes of rice was found in 894 shops. Action has been taken by the department against the shops in which shortage of savings stock was found, under which the allotment of 101 shops was suspended, allotment of 72 shops was cancelled, FIR was registered against the operators of 19 shops and RRC has been issued for recovery against 194 shops.
The Food Department has clarified that to ensure transparency and accountability in the public distribution system, such inspection and verification proceedings will continue regularly in future also.
