Prime Minister Modi’s crown presented to Goddess Kali in Bangladesh was stolen, Indian High Commission expressed ‘deep concern’

New Delhi: The Goddess Kali crown has been stolen from the Jeshoreshwari temple in Bangladesh. The stolen crown was personally gifted to the Jeshoreshwari temple by Prime Minister Modi during his visit to Bangladesh in March 2021. The Indian High Commission in Bangladesh has expressed “deep concern” over this report.

Jeshoreshwari Temple holds great significance in Hindu mythology, considered as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas spread across India and its neighbouring countries. The name “Jeshoreshwari” means “Goddess of Jessore”.

Historical records reveal that the temple originated in the late 12th century when a “Brahmin” named Anari built a temple with 100 doors for Jeshoreshwari Peetha (temple). The temple was renovated by Lakshman Sen in the 13th century and finally rebuilt by King Pratapaditya in the 16th century.

According to Hindu mythology, Jeshoreshwari Temple located in Ishwaripur is believed to be the place where the palms and soles of the feet of Goddess Sati fell. The Goddess is worshipped here as Goddess Jeshoreshwari, while Lord Shiva appears as Chanda.
