Raipur ( Chhattisgarh) : The Story So Far : A new dawn of good governance and compassion has arrived in the remote, Naxal-affected areas of Sukma district—regions that were once cut off from the mainstream of development. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and the guidance of Collector Amit Kumar, the district administration and the Health Department successfully performed free cataract surgeries on 42 patients from the inaccessible, interior villages of Jagargunda Tehsil, banishing darkness from their lives forever.

Health department teams personally traversed difficult terrain to conduct door-to-door surveys, identified patients, and transported them with dignity in special vehicles to the District Hospital. There, under the supervision of Civil Surgeon Dr. M.R. Kashyap and Eye Surgeon Dr. Khushbu Dewangan, these life-changing surgeries were performed as part of the “Mission Drishti’ scheme”.

The most beautiful and moving image of this initiative emerged in the story of Madvi Muye, a resident of the remote, hard-to-reach village of Gedapar. Madvi, who had been living a helpless existence for the past three months due to failing eyesight, underwent successful surgery on both eyes at the District Hospital, illuminating his world once again.

With a new sparkle in his eyes and a smile on his face, an emotional Madvi Muye said, “I have received a new life thanks to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and the district administration; I will remain forever grateful to them.”

Upon discharge, fruits were distributed to boost the patients’ morale—bringing joy to their faces—and on Sunday June 21,2026 , they were safely escorted back to their homes with full respect.

Following a significant decline in Naxal activities, this expansion of healthcare services into remote rural areas reflects the changing and smiling face of Sukma. Poor villagers no longer have to travel to large, expensive cities for medical treatment; instead, the government’s welfare schemes are reaching their very doorsteps.

The district administration distributed fruits and other supplies free of charge to patients following their cataract surgeries. Officials urged discharged patients and their families to encourage other needy individuals in their neighborhoods to seek treatment, and this compassionate initiative by the administration has now evolved into a public awareness movement.
