Islamabad: Terrorists have attacked a convoy of foreign diplomats travelling from Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province to the capital Islamabad. One policeman was killed and three others were injured in the blast carried out by terrorists. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that an IED exploded on an Advance Scout Police vehicle in Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunda Septembers 22, causing several casualties to police personnel.
News agency Xinhua quoted the statement as saying that the group of diplomats has returned safely to Islamabad. The Foreign Office said, “Our condolences are with the family of the deceased policeman and the three people injured in the incident. Such terrorist activities will not deter Pakistan from its commitment in the fight against terrorism.” According to the report, the police vehicle targeted by the terrorists was at the forefront of a convoy carrying 11 foreign diplomats. Policeman Burhan has died in the attack. While a sub-inspector is also said to be among the three injured. All the ambassadors are safe. They have been sent to Islamabad.
The blast took place in Sherabad suburb when the diplomats were going to Malam Jabba after a function at the Chamber of Commerce in Mingora. Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has strongly condemned the incident. According to a statement issued from the President House, Asif Ali Zardari paid tribute to the policeman killed in the attack. The President prayed for the speedy recovery of all those injured in the attack and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family.
