The story of a victim family has come to light in the terrorist attack in Byasaran Valley of Pahalgam in South Kashmir. The victim girl told that when the terrorists came, her family was hiding inside the tent out of fear. They asked the girl’s 54-year-old father Santosh Jagdale to come out and recite an Islamic verse. When he could not do so, he was shot three times. The terrorist shot him once in the head, then behind the ear and then in the back.

Asawari Jagdale, the 26-year-old daughter of the Pune businessman, told news agency PTI the horror the family faced in the gruesome attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday April22, 2025 . After her father fell to the ground, the gunmen attacked her uncle who was lying next to him and shot him multiple times in the back. Asawari does not know if her father and uncle are alive or dead.

Terrorists dressed like local police
She, her mother and another female relative survived and were evacuated by locals and security forces. She said the family was holidaying there when they heard gunfire from “people dressed like local police” descending from a nearby hill.

People hid in a tent when shots were fired
Hearing the gunshots, we immediately ran to a nearby tent for safety. Six to seven others (tourists) were also present there. We all lay down on the ground to avoid the firing, we then realised that there was firing between the terrorists and the security personnel. Asawari told that the group of terrorists first came to a nearby tent and started firing. Then they came to our tent and asked my father to come out. The terrorists said ‘Choudhary tu bahar aa ja’.

Terrorists accused him of supporting PM Modi
The terrorists then accused him of supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They then asked his father to recite an Islamic verse. When he failed to do so, they fired three bullets at him. They shot several other men present at the spot. There was no one to help. There was no police or army. The firing took place around 3.30 pm.
