The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also announced the names of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Assembly before the swearing-in of the new government in the Union Territory of Delhi. Former Delhi BJP President Vijender Gupta will be the Assembly Speaker. The party has announced the name of Mohan Singh Bisht for the Deputy Speaker. Mohan Singh Bisht, of Uttarakhand origin, is a seven-time MLA and this time he has won from an assembly seat like Mustafabad, which is considered difficult for the BJP.
Vijender Gupta is a three-time MLA from Rohini assembly seat. In the recent assembly elections, Vijender Gupta defeated his nearest rival Pradeep Mittal of Aam Aadmi Party by a huge margin of about 38 thousand votes. Vijender Gupta was the leader of the BJP Legislative Party in the last assembly of Delhi. Vijender Gupta was made the leader of the legislative party of the then opposition party BJP on 5 August 2024. During the Aam Aadmi Party government, there were many occasions when Vijender Gupta was thrown out of the assembly by calling the marshals.
In the recent elections, BJP had fielded Kapil Mishra in place of Mohan Singh Bisht from Karawal Nagar seat. After the ticket was cut, Mohan Singh Bisht had announced to contest the elections as an independent. However, within two days the party had declared him as a candidate from Mustafabad. Mohan Singh Bisht defeated AIMIM candidate Tahir Hussain in the Muslim-dominated Mustafabad seat.
