The ongoing violence in Bengal over the Waqf law is not stopping. In the latest incident, supporters of the Indian Secular Front clashed with the police. During this, there was a lot of uproar. Many people are reported to be injured in the violence and many police vehicles were set on fire. This violence took place in South 24 Parganas of Bengal. This clash took place when the police tried to stop ISF supporters from going to the rally of party leader and Bhangar MLA Naushad Siddiqui. Naushad Siddiqui’s rally was held at Ramlila Maidan in Kolkata. Police say that there was no police permission for this rally.
How violence broke out
Police said that ISF supporters were stopped near Bhojerhat on Basanti Highway in South 24 Parganas. A large number of ISF supporters had also gathered here from Meenakhan and Sandeshkhali. When stopped by the police, the crowd tried to break the barricade, which increased the tension. After this the violence started. A senior police officer said that the protesters set some police vehicles on fire. During this, several policemen were injured. The police lathi-charged to disperse the protesters, in which an ISF supporter suffered a head injury. After this, the ISF supporters sat on a dharna on the highway, causing a traffic jam on the highway. In view of the situation, a large number of police forces were deployed and a high alert was issued in the surrounding areas. Later the protesters were dispersed.
