Sources said that medicines worth several lakhs of rupees were damaged in the vandalism in the medicine store room. Even the CCTV camera installed there was broken.

Meanwhile, a section of medical students and junior doctors of the hospital have claimed that the intention of the vandals may have been to destroy evidence. According to them, the emergency department was vandalised because the miscreants thought it was the seminar hall which was the crime scene.

The city police have also clarified that the incident of vandalism has no effect on the crime scene. The woman doctor was allegedly raped and murdered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The police have arrested a man for the crime. The case was later handed over to the CBI on the orders of the Calcutta High Court.
