19 arrested in vandalism case at hospital, police issued statement

Kolkata: Police have arrested 19 people so far in connection with the vandalism at the emergency department of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Police issued a statement on Friday giving this information. Police said, out of the 19 arrested people, five were identified through social media feedback. In the statement, police has also requested the public to update the police about other suspects behind the vandalism, whose pictures were released by Kolkata Police on Thursday August 15

The police said in a statement, “So far 19 arrests have been made in the case of vandalism at RG Kar Hospital. Five of them were identified through social media feedback. If you recognise any suspect in our previous post, please inform us.

Thank you for your support and trust.” Along with the statement, the police also released pictures of the five people arrested based on the feedback received from social media. The vandalism and vandalism was carried out late Wednesday night at the emergency department of RG Kar Medical Hospital, which houses the Hybrid Critical Care Unit (HCCU), Critical Care Unit (CCU), emergency department ticket counter and medicine store room. Sources said that medicines worth several lakhs of rupees were damaged in the vandalism in the medicine store room. Even the CCTV camera installed there was broken.

Meanwhile, a section of medical students and junior doctors of the hospital have claimed that the intention of the vandals may have been to destroy evidence. According to them, the emergency department was vandalised because the miscreants thought it was the seminar hall which was the crime scene.

The city police have also clarified that the incident of vandalism has no effect on the crime scene. The woman doctor was allegedly raped and murdered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The police have arrested a man for the crime. The case was later handed over to the CBI on the orders of the Calcutta High Court.
