10 Maha Kumbh Devotees Killed In Bolero-Bus Crash On Prayagraj-Mirzapur Highway

Over 50 crore devotees have taken a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam during the ongoing Maha Kumbh till Friday evening, which is more than the combined population of the US and Russia, according to a statement released by the state government.

Prayagraj: At least 10 people were killed after car devotees from Chhattisgarh to Maha Kumbh Mela collided with a bus on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway. Being held after 12 years, the Maha Kumbh started on January 13 and will continue till February 26 on the banks of the Triveni Sangam — the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers, considered holy among Hindus.

“This accident took place under PS Meja around midnight on Friday night. The bodies have been taken to Swaroop Rani Medical Hospital for post-mortem. Further process is still going on,” said DCP Yamunanagar, Vivek Chandra Yadav, as quoted by ANI.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the matter and directed officials to expedite relief work. “Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the road accident in Prayagraj district and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. He directed the officials to immediately reach the spot and expedite the relief work and also directed the district administration officials to treat the injured properly. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured,” the Chief Minister’s Office said in a statement.

Earlier this week, seven pilgrims were killed after their bus collided with a truck in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The incident took place NH-30 around 9:15 am on February 11.

All the devotees were returning from Prayagraj in a traveler vehicle. As soon as the traveler vehicle reached between village Mohla and Bargi of Sihora tehsil, it collided with a truck coming from the front. It is being told that this accident happened due to the truck, full of cement, coming from the wrong direction.
