Nishikant Dubey reminded Rahul Gandhi of an agreement of a government of his party. He said that in 1991, your party-supported government made an agreement that India and Pakistan will exchange information about any attack or army movement with each other. Is this agreement treason? Does it befit you to make objectionable comments on Foreign Minister Dr. S Jaishankar?
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey on Friday may 23, 2025 accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of hypocrisy for questioning External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The BJP MP cited the 1991 Indo-Pak military transparency agreement signed during the Congress-backed government and accused the Congress of long-standing nexus with the Pakistani vote bank. In a post on ‘X’, the BJP MP claimed that in the 1991 agreement, India and Pakistan agreed to share information about military operations. Was this not to support security transparency with Pakistan?
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey said in his tweet, ‘The question is not about our government and your (Congress) government, the question is that since 1947 we consider Pakistan a terrorist nation, we have been fighting with them for 78 years on the issue of Kashmir. Pakistan has occupied a part of our Kashmir.
Despite that you (Congress) kept giving concessions, whether it was the Nehru Liaquat Pact of 1950, the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 or the Shimla Agreement of 1975. We do not even discuss the subject of defense strategy in Parliament, but in 1991 when you (Congress) were supporting the Chandrashekhar-led government and in 1994 when PV Narasimha Rao was in power, it (the agreement) was implemented and you wrote where the army, navy would be stationed and how the air force would work.
Are all these things not treason? Didn’t the Congress betray for vote bank politics? I think the Indian government should file a treason case against it. The fight with elements outside this country is going on, but the time has come to take action against such elements within the country as well.’
Congress denies allegations
However, the Congress rejected the allegation, saying, ‘This person should know that the Indian National Congress withdrew support from the Chandrashekhar government in late February 1991. Elections for the 10th Lok Sabha had already been announced.
How did Rahul question Jaishankar?
The matter escalated after Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of External Affairs Minister Jaishankar earlier this week. The Congress leader claimed that Jaishankar had admitted that India had briefed Pakistan before the operation. He questioned the minister’s silence on the number of Indian Air Force planes lost during Operation Sindoor. He had insisted that the nation deserves to know the truth.
Know about ‘Operation Sindoor’
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025 after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.2025 During this, terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK) was targeted. More than 100 terrorists were neutralised in it. After this, Pakistan fired shells and carried out drone attacks in the border areas. In response, India carried out air strikes on 11 Pakistani airbases. Both countries agreed to end the conflict on May 10, 2025 .
