Action against ‘Pak supporters’ intensified in Assam, 76 arrests so far, opposition MLAs also sent to jail

The Assam government has intensified action against people supporting Pakistan in Assam. So far 76 people have been arrested. In this action started after the Pahalgam terrorist attack, strict monitoring is being done on those who post anti-India and pro-Pakistan posts on social media. Chief Minister Himanta Sarma has made it clear that no person involved in anti-national activities will be spared.

The ongoing action against Pakistan supporters in Assam has gained momentum. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on Saturday May 24, 2025 that a total of 76 people have been arrested in this connection in the state so far. This action was started after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April, 2025 in which 26 people lost their lives.

Chief Minister Sarma posted on Instagram that one person each was arrested from Nalbari, South Salmara and Kamrup districts on Friday May 23 , 2025 . He said, ‘So far 76 people have been arrested in Assam as part of the action against Pakistan supporters.’

According to the news agency report, Assam Police is taking strict action against ‘anti-India’ and ‘pro-Pakistan’ activities on social media. The name of opposition party AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam is also included among those arrested.

Chief Minister Sarma has already made it clear that the statewide campaign against Pakistan supporters and anti-national elements will continue till their roots are completely eradicated from the society. He said, ‘No leniency will be shown against traitors. Strictest action will be taken against anyone found involved in anti-India activities.’

Meanwhile, the political atmosphere in the state has also heated up regarding this action. The opposition parties have termed it as ‘political vendetta’ and accused the government of targeting minorities. At the same time, the government says that this action is necessary to maintain law and order and crack down on traitors.
