The Indian team has missed out on taking the lead in the first innings against England. England scored 387 runs in the first innings and India could also score the same number of runs, due to which the score of both the teams was equal in the first innings. KL Rahul scored a century for India, while Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja scored half-centuries. Despite this, the Indian team was not successful in taking the lead. India lost the last four wickets at an interval of 11 runs, due to which it could not manage to gain the lead.

Pant and Rahul looked in good rhythm and with whose help India scored 248 runs for four wickets in the first innings till the lunch break. The Indian team is currently trailing England by 139 runs.

Pant got out while trying to steal runs quickly. Pant was dismissed after scoring 74 runs off 112 balls with the help of eight fours and two sixes. There was a partnership of 141 runs for the fourth wicket between Pant and KL Rahul. Lunch break was announced as soon as Pant was out. India scored 103 runs in the first session and lost just one wicket. India batted at a run rate of 4.58 in the opening session. KL Rahul is at the crease with 98 runs and is close to scoring a century.
