Raipur: Pragati College, Raipur, celebrated National Sports Day on Tuesday September 1, 2026 with students participating in a series of indoor and recreational games aimed at promoting physical activity, teamwork and sporting spirit on the campus.

National Sports Day is observed across India every year on August 29, commemorating the birth anniversary of legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. At Pragati College, the celebration was organised on September 1 as the scheduled period around August 28 and 29 coincided with festivals and related activities.

Students from different streams participated in the programme, turning the college premises into a lively arena of friendly competition. The activities included tug-of-war and other indoor and team games, with students as well as faculty members gathering to encourage the participants.

Sports Beyond Competition

The celebration sought to underline the importance of sports and physical activity as part of student life rather than viewing them merely as competitive events.

The games provided students an opportunity to demonstrate coordination, team spirit and enthusiasm while also interacting with classmates outside their regular academic environment.

The programme concluded with the message that academic development and physical wellbeing complement each other and that sporting activities remain an important part of a balanced college education.

Principal Dr Soumya Nayyar, Administrator Jyoti Thakur, Dr K. N.
