Raipur: A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Ambikapur on Wednesday Octpber 29 , 2025 to mark the birth centenary of Baba Kartik Oraon, a great educationist, social worker, and national leader of the tribal community. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai attended the event as the chief guest.
Paying tribute to Baba Kartik Oraon, Chief Minister Sai said that Baba Kartik Oraon is the pride of the society. Despite pursuing higher education abroad, he never abandoned his religion, culture, and civilization. Following the path shown by his ancestors, he acquired the highest education and gave direction to the society.
Chief Minister Sai said that Baba Kartik Oraon’s statement – “The more you study, the more you shape the society” – continues to inspire us. He dedicated his entire life to the upliftment of tribal society, the spread of education, and social unity. We should follow his path and pledge to work for the all-round development of society.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Baba Kartik Oraon Chowk, to be built near the Municipal Corporation office, and announced a grant of ₹40.79 lakh for the construction of the statue and the square. He stated that this square will serve as a symbol to preserve the memory of Baba Kartik Oraon’s ideals, thoughts, and contributions.

Agriculture Minister Ramvichar Netam said that Baba Kartik Oraon is a source of inspiration for us. He dedicated his entire life to the upliftment and development of society. We need to follow his path. He inspired society to progress while respecting its culture, civilization, traditions, and customs.
MP Chintamani Maharaj said that Baba Kartik Oraon always preached unity, education, and awareness in society. Today it is necessary that we follow his ideals and the path shown by him and organise the society and bind it in the thread of unity, so that the tribal society can become strong and self-reliant and play its part in the development of the country.
On this occasion, Samari MLA Uddeshwari Paikra, Jashpur MLA Raimuni Bhagat, along with a large number of dignitaries were present.
