Women Self-Help Groups’ signature rice reaches the Police Headquarters as DGP Arun Dev Gautam applauds grassroots entrepreneurship and women-led economic empowerment.
The aroma of ‘Vishnu Bhog’ rice, the signature agricultural product of Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi (GPM) district, reached the state’s top police office as Director General of Police (DGP) Arun Dev Gautam was presented with a specially packed gift of the premium rice during his visit to the district. The symbolic gesture highlighted the remarkable journey of a locally grown product that has become a shining example of rural entrepreneurship and women’s economic empowerment.
District Collector Dr. Santosh Kumar Dewangan felicitated the DGP by presenting the unique variety of ‘Vishnu Bhog’ rice, which is being cultivated, processed, and marketed by Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Bihan rural livelihood initiative.
During the interaction, Collector Dewangan explained the distinct aroma, superior quality, and cultural significance of the traditional rice variety. He also highlighted how women-led self-help groups have transformed it into a successful livelihood enterprise, providing sustainable income opportunities while promoting the district’s agricultural identity.
Commending the initiative, DGP Arun Dev Gautam said that ‘Vishnu Bhog’ rice is not merely an agricultural product but a symbol of the determination, hard work, and self-reliance of rural women. He noted that such innovative community-led initiatives strengthen the local economy while giving national recognition to indigenous products.
The DGP expressed confidence that quality products rooted in tradition and produced by women entrepreneurs would soon establish a strong presence beyond Chhattisgarh. He emphasized that encouraging local products would improve market access for farmers and women’s groups, ultimately accelerating inclusive rural development.
The initiative has emerged as a model of “Vocal for Local”, combining agriculture, women empowerment, and rural entrepreneurship into a sustainable development story. By adding value to traditional produce through organized marketing and branding, GPM district is creating new opportunities for self-help groups while preserving its rich agricultural heritage.
Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Khilari, District Panchayat CEO Mukesh Rawte, and other senior district officials were also present during the occasion.
