RJD’s first family vacates long-held official residence after court directives, shifts to privately owned house in Patna
Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi have vacated their long-occupied government bungalow on Saturday July 4, 2026 and shifted to their privately owned residence in Patna, marking the end of an era in Bihar’s political landscape.
The move follows legal and administrative directives concerning the allotment of government accommodations to former public office holders. Rather than seeking another official residence, the RJD’s influential political couple has relocated to their own house, where they are expected to continue hosting party meetings and political discussions.
The bungalow had long served as the nerve centre of the RJD, witnessing key political decisions, strategy meetings, and visits by party leaders and supporters over the years. Its vacation closes a significant chapter in Bihar’s political history.
Despite the change in address, political observers believe the shift is unlikely to diminish the family’s influence. Lalu Prasad, though no longer holding public office, remains one of the most prominent figures in Bihar politics, while Rabri Devi continues to play an active role in the party’s affairs.
The relocation comes at a time when the RJD is preparing its strategy for the next phase of political contests in Bihar, with the party leadership expected to continue its activities from the new residence.
