New Delhi : In 2020, the corona pandemic wreaked havoc across the world. People had not yet got over the fear of this when the news of another virus in China has emerged as a headache for the world. Vigilance is also being exercised in India regarding this.
On Saturday January 4, 2025 the Union Health Ministry assured people that there was no need to worry about the recent surge in cases of respiratory diseases in China, including those caused by human metapneumovirus (HMPV).
In a statement, the ministry emphasised that everything is fine in China and India is fully prepared to deal with respiratory infections effectively.
Ministry issued statement after the meeting
Actually, this statement came after the Health Ministry called a meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group to assess the situation. The ministry said, “Officials are closely monitoring updates from the World Health Organization (WHO) and other international channels to be aware of any risks.”
The ministry has also requested WHO to provide timely updates to ensure a proactive approach. Surveillance data from India shows that there has been no significant increase in the number of respiratory infections or related hospitalisations across the country.
“Viruses like HMPV are already in circulation in India and the existing health infrastructure is capable of handling any potential cases,” the ministry said.
The Ministry of Health made this appeal to the people
Reiterating the country’s readiness, the ministry highlighted that India’s strong surveillance system and healthcare resources are well equipped to deal with respiratory diseases. At the same time, citizens were urged to remain calm and follow standard health precautions, including maintaining hygiene and seeking medical advice if symptoms appear.
China denied the reports
Let us inform you that China dismissed reports of a large outbreak of flu in the country and said that such reports should be avoided, claiming that hospitals in China are overflowing with patients. China says that respiratory problems occur every year during the winter season, and the cases reported this year are less severe than last year. China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that respiratory problems peak during winter in the Northern Hemisphere (China and surrounding areas). He assured that it is safe to travel in China.
