A high-level meeting of the BJP’s Central Election Committee was held at PM Modi’s residence. During the meeting, strategies for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, by-elections, and Legislative Council elections were discussed. Following the meeting, possibilities regarding an organizational restructuring and the formation of a new team were also deliberated upon. This meeting is considered to be the final session of the current Central Election Committee.
New Delhi : A crucial meeting of the BJP’s Central Election Committee took place at PM Modi’s residence on Monday June 1, 2026 . Lasting for approximately two hours, the meeting focused on discussions concerning the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, Rajya Sabha by-elections, and Legislative Council elections scheduled in several states.
Attendees at the meeting included BJP President Nitin Nabin, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP National General Secretary B.L. Santhosh, J.P. Nadda, and Devendra Fadnavis, alongside other members of the Central Election Committee.
According to sources, the meeting involved discussions on strategies for the elections to be held for 24 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states, as well as the proposed by-elections for three Rajya Sabha seats. Legislative Council elections scheduled in several states—including Maharashtra—were also on the meeting’s agenda.
Extensive Discussions on Electoral Preparations
BJP President Nitin Nabin and B.L. Santhosh delivered detailed presentations regarding electoral preparations, potential candidates, and the political situation in various states. An assessment was also presented during the meeting suggesting that the BJP could potentially win three to four more Rajya Sabha seats this time compared to its current tally.
According to sources, during the discussions, PM Modi suggested that the respective state units review the status of their Rajya Sabha seats and ensure complete preparedness. He stated that the Party President should take the final decision based on the feedback and assessments received from the states.
Why is this BJP Meeting Considered Significant?
During the meeting, a consensus was also reached to authorize the National President—along with the respective state units—to select candidates for the Legislative Council elections. From a political perspective, this meeting is considered particularly significant because, typically, the BJP’s Central Election Committee is not convened specifically for the selection of Rajya Sabha candidates. Following the conclusion of the Central Election Committee meeting, a separate meeting was held between Prime Minister Modi and top BJP leaders. This meeting was attended by Nitin Nabin, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and B.L. Santhosh.
Sources indicate that organizational preparations were reviewed during this meeting, and discussions were held regarding appointments to be made at both the national and state levels. Conversations also took place concerning the ongoing organizational restructuring process within the party.
Nitin Nabin May Form a New Team
BJP insiders believe that Party President Nitin Nabin may constitute his new team as early as next week. Consequently, the Central Election Committee meeting held on Sunday is being viewed as potentially being the final meeting of the current committee.
In line with this, Nitin Nabin has also convened a meeting of the BJP’s national office-bearers on Monday. Within the party, this is being regarded as likely being the final meeting of the current team of national office-bearers. It is anticipated that, following this, the BJP may soon announce a new organizational team as well as new appointments at various levels.
