Raipur: In a notable achievement for a young legal professional from Chhattisgarh, Soumya Rathore has been selected as a Legal Assistant-cum-Research Associate at the Supreme Court of India, New Delhi, marking another significant step in an academic and professional journey distinguished by merit.
Soumya has been selected to work in the court of Justice Chandrashekhar at the country’s highest court. Her selection assumes particular significance as she moves to the Supreme Court after already earning a position at the Chhattisgarh High Court through a competitive selection process.
Daughter of Dhananjay Rathore, Joint Director at the Directorate of Public Relations, Raipur, and Roshni Rathore, a compere with All India Radio, Raipur, Soumya has maintained a strong academic record from her student years.
She secured All India Rank 23 in the MHCET examination, which paved the way for her legal studies at the prestigious Government Law College, Mumbai, one of India’s oldest law institutions. She completed her studies in Legal Science and LL.B. from the college.
From Chhattisgarh High Court to the Supreme Court
After completing her legal education, Soumya appeared for the Legal Assistant selection examination conducted for the Chhattisgarh High Court and secured first position.
She was subsequently appointed in March 2026 as a Legal Assistant in the court of Justice N. K. Chandravanshi at the Chhattisgarh High Court, where she has been gaining experience in legal research and judicial work.
Her selection at the Supreme Court within months of beginning her assignment at the High Court represents a rapid progression in the early stages of her legal career. The role of a Legal Assistant-cum-Research Associate provides young law professionals an opportunity to undertake legal research and assist a judge in examining questions of law and judicial material.
Academic achievement also runs in the family. Soumya’s sister, Shaurya Rathore, is pursuing her MBBS from Government Medical College, Jagdalpur. Both sisters have distinguished themselves academically from an early age.
The family originally hails from Janjgir in Chhattisgarh, while Dhananjay Rathore is presently based in Raipur.
For Soumya, the journey from legal studies in Mumbai to the Chhattisgarh High Court and now to the Supreme Court of India marks an important professional milestone — and places a young legal professional from Chhattisgarh at the heart of India’s highest judicial institution.
