New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, over the phone. In this conversation, they discussed the current situation in Bangladesh.
PM Modi has reiterated India’s support for Bangladesh to be democratic, stable, peaceful and progressive. Apart from this, Professor Yunus assured the safety and protection of Hindus and all minorities in Bangladesh. Prime Minister Modi gave this information by tweeting. He said in the tweet that he spoke to the Chief Advisor of Bangladesh and emphasised on the protection of the interests of all minorities. He also said that India is always looking forward to further improve its strong relations with Bangladesh.
Modi said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’, “Chief Advisor to the Government of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus called me. Exchanged views on the current situation. Reiterated India’s support for a democratic, stable, peaceful and progressive Bangladesh. He assured the protection and security of Hindus and all minorities in Bangladesh.
” On August 8, after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government in Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus was sworn in as the Chief Advisor of the interim government. After Yunus took charge, Modi congratulated him and called for ensuring the safety of Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh.
On the occasion of India’s 78th Independence Day on Thursday August 15, Prime Minister Modi had expressed hope that the situation in violence-hit Bangladesh will soon return to normal. He had said that 140 crore Indians are concerned about the safety of Hindus and minorities in the neighboring country. In his address from the ramparts of the Red Fort, he said that India is committed to peace and will remain its well-wisher in Bangladesh’s development journey.
Violence against members of the Hindu community has increased in Bangladesh since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government. Hasina resigned as prime minister and left the country on August 5 after widespread protests against her government over the controversial reservation system in jobs. A non-political Hindu organization called ‘Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance’ has claimed that the minority community has faced attacks and threats at 278 places in 48 districts since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5. The organization has termed it an ‘attack on Hinduism’.
