Bahraich: A woman has filed a police complaint against her husband alleging that he gave her ‘triple talaq’ after she praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as well as the recent development works carried out in Ayodhya town, officials said on Saturday.
A team has been sent to arrest the woman’s husband, a senior police officer said. The woman also alleged that her in-laws thrashed her and sent her to her parental home for praising the BJP-led central government.
The woman, who identified herself as Maryam, told ANI, “I am from a village and when I saw the city I liked it and I praised Yogi ji and Modi ji, my in-laws did not like it and they beat me and sent me to my parents’ house…” The woman further said, “Later I was given triple talaq. His dowry demand was very high, our family gave everything but could not fulfill his demand… I praised (Yogi) for the safety of girls and he has done everything for girls and he (my husband) did not like it…
” Bahraich Superintendent of Police (SP) Vrinda Shukla said that a case has been registered based on the woman’s complaint. She hails from Bahraich in Jarwal Road police station area and was married in Ayodhya. She has complained that, when she was visiting Ayodhya district with her family, she praised the recent development work, the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister. “Angry over this, her husband and other in-laws started harassing her. Taking immediate cognizance of the complaint, a case has been registered under the relevant Acts and a team has been sent to arrest her husband and others whose names have surfaced,” Shukla said.
