West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to Prime Minister Modi regarding the violence against women in the country. Through this letter, she demanded strict laws against rape.
Alapan Bandyopadhyay, Chief Advisor to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has given information about this. CM Mamata Banerjee wrote in her letter, “Rape cases are increasing continuously across the country and according to the available data, in many cases rape is accompanied by murder. It is horrifying to see that about 90 rape cases occur every day across the country. This shakes the trust and conscience of the society and the nation. It is the duty of all of us to end this so that women feel safe”
CM Mamata’s three demands
CM Mamata Banerjee made three demands in the letter written to the PM. First demand – Strict laws are needed to prevent such heinous and brutal crimes. Second demand – Fast track court should hear the case soon. Third demand – Trial must be completed within 15 days. During the hearing on the Kolkata rape and murder case, the Supreme Court on Thursday ,August 22, 2024 reprimanded the Bengal Police. The court has taken steps to ensure the safety of doctors across the country and formed a National Task Force.
CM Mamata Banerjee talked about strict punishment
CM Mamata Banerjee wrote, “Such a serious and sensitive issue needs to be addressed in a comprehensive manner through a stringent central law, which provides for harsh punishment against the persons involved in such heinous crimes. The establishment of a fast-track to ensure speedy justice in such cases should also be considered in the proposed law.”
