In a meeting held under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Nirvachan Sadan, New Delhi, it was decided that the work of linking voter ID card with Aadhaar will be done as per the provisions of Article 326 of the Constitution. In this regard, technical experts of the Unique Identification Authority of India and the Election Commission will soon have further discussions.
Now the voter ID card will be linked to the Aadhar card. This decision was taken in a meeting between the Chief Election Commissioner and the Union Home Secretary on Tuesday March 18, 2025 .
Led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi held a meeting with Union Home Secretary, Secretary of Legislative Department, Secretary of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, CEO of UIDAI and technical experts of Election Commission at Nirvachan Sadan, New Delhi. It was decided in the meeting that the work of linking voter ID card with Aadhaar will be done as per the provisions of Article 326 of the Constitution. It was said that technical experts of Unique Identification Authority of India and Election Commission will soon have further discussion in this regard.
There is a provision to link voter ID to Aadhaar in the Constitution. There is also a provision to link voter ID to Aadhaar in the Constitution. It is said that according to Section 23 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, which is called the Election Laws (Amendment) Act, 2021, the Electoral Registration Officer can demand existing or prospective voters to provide Aadhaar number to establish identity on a voluntary basis. This law allows voluntary linking of voter list with Aadhaar database.

These days there is a lot of uproar inside and outside the Parliament regarding the duplicate voter card (EPIC) numbers. Along with this, political parties have raised questions on the legitimacy of the Election Commission. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had also raised this issue on Friday March 14 , 2025 , the Election Commission (EC) had said that it would solve the decades-old problem of duplicate voter ID (EPIC) numbers in the next three months. After this, the Chief Election Commissioner had called a meeting to discuss linking the voter ID card with Aadhaar.
