New Delhi : The government has announced the appointment of the new Air Chief. Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh will take over as the new Air Chief of the country on 30 September. It is worth noting that the current Air Chief VR Choudhary is retiring on 30 September itself. Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh was commissioned in the Air Force in 1984.
The government has taken seniority into account in the appointment of the new Air Chief. Air Marshal Singh is a fighter pilot. Before becoming the Vice Air Chief in February last year, Singh has handled many important responsibilities.
Air Marshal Singh has experience of flying various types of fighter aircraft and helicopters. During his career, he has commanded operational fighter squadrons and frontline air bases. As a test pilot, he has led the MiG-29 fighter upgrade project management team that went to Moscow. Apart from this, he has been the Project Director (Flight Test) of the indigenous fighter aircraft Tejas. It is worth noting that in recent times there has been a lot of tension between China and India from Arunachal to Ladakh. Indian fighter planes have been deployed near Arunachal. Singh is taking command at a time when the Indian Air Force is continuously undergoing its modernization at a rapid pace.
Air Marshal Singh has been awarded the ‘Ati Vishisht Seva Medal’ for his exceptional work.
