Dame Maggie Smith Dies: Harry Potter actress breathed her last at the age of 89

Actress Dame Maggie Smith, who won the hearts of millions of fans with her acting in the films ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Downton Abbey’, has passed away. The actress said goodbye to the world at the age of 89.

The actress, who was a great figure of British stage and cinema, won two Oscars in her career, one in 1970 for ‘The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie’ and the other in 1979 for ‘California Suite’. Her sons Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin wrote on social media- ‘We have to tell you with great sadness that Dame Maggie Smith has passed away. She breathed her last in the hospital this morning on Friday September 27 . She was a very private person and her friends and family were present in her last moments. She left behind two sons and five loving grandchildren, who are deeply saddened by the death of their mother and grandmother. ‘

Dame Maggie Smith was unmatched in comedy

Dame Maggie Smith, a great figure of British cinema and theater, made a special place in the hearts of the audience with her amazing acting skills. She was also well-liked for her comedy. Smith once said that ‘there are ups and downs in my career. I feel like I’ve been limited to comedy.’ He further said that comedy is often not considered a real art. However, Smith performed brilliantly not only in comedy but also in serious roles.

‘Nowhere to Go’ was the first film

Born in Oxford in 1934, Smith began her career at the Playhouse Theatre. She took part in many major stage productions, including Bamber Gascoigne’s musical ‘Share My Lettuce’. Along with this, Smith also stepped into the film industry, where she got her first chance in Seth Holt’s thriller ‘Nowhere to Go’ in the year 1958.
