New Delhi. Sitaram Yechury, leader of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM), has been admitted to AIIMS in Delhi. He was having trouble breathing. He is being treated in the ICU. Doctors of the Department of Medicine are treating him. At present, his condition is stable and under the supervision of doctors. Sitaram Yechury is a famous face of the Left party. He is also the general secretary of the CPM. Yechury was awarded the Best Parliamentarian Award in 2016.
Yechury belongs to a Tamil Brahmin family. He was elected as the party’s general secretary on 19 April 2015 and has been working on this post since then. Sitaram Yechury was born on 12 August 1952 in Chennai. He came to Delhi after the Telangana movement in 1969. After doing BA in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, DU, he did BA in Economics from JNU and then took admission in PhD. It was here that he joined the Student Federation of India in 1974 and started student politics. However, he could not complete his PhD from JNU after being arrested during the Emergency in 1977.
