Meanwhile, playing his 190th match, Sunil Narine established a new milestone by becoming the foreign player with the most appearances in the history of the IPL.

Several major records were set during the second match of IPL 2026, played between the Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. During the contest, both Rohit Sharma and Sunil Narine achieved significant milestones.

Rohit Sharma Makes History, Overtakes Warner
Former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has achieved a major milestone against KKR. Prior to the match, he held the second spot on the list of highest run-scorers against this team and required just 11 runs to overtake David Warner. Opening the innings at Wankhede, Rohit crossed this mark and has now become the batsman with the most runs scored against KKR in the IPL. Warner had scored 1093 runs against Kolkata’s bowling attack across 28 innings. Rohit now has 1094* runs to his name in 36 innings.

Sunil Narine Becomes the Foreign Player with the Most IPL Matches
By taking the field in this match, KKR’s star all-rounder Sunil Narine also created history. This marks his 190th IPL match, and with this milestone, he has become the foreign player with the most appearances in the league. In doing so, he surpassed Kieron Pollard (189 matches). AB de Villiers and David Warner also feature on this list with 184 matches each, while Dwayne Bravo has played 161 matches.

KKR Sets a Target of 221 Runs for Mumbai
Powered by half-century partnerships from Ajinkya Rahane (67) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (51), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have posted a total of 220 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs against Mumbai Indians. For MI, Shardul Thakur claimed three wickets, while Hardik Pandya secured one dismissal.

The second match of IPL 2026 is currently underway at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, featuring Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Batting first, KKR has set a target of 221 runs for MI. MI captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first. Opening the innings for KKR, Finn Allen and Ajinkya Rahane provided a blistering start. The duo added 69 runs for the first wicket in just 5.2 overs. Allen was the first to depart, having played a whirlwind innings of 37 runs off 17 balls, studded with six fours and two sixes.

Following this, a 40-run partnership for the second wicket unfolded between Rahane and Green, spanning 21 deliveries. With the team score standing at 109, Green was dismissed after scoring 18 runs off 10 balls. Subsequently, Rahane forged a 36-run partnership for the third wicket with Angkrish Raghuvanshi, taking the team’s total to 145. Rahane was dismissed as the third wicket to fall, having played a magnificent innings of 67 runs off 40 balls, studded with five sixes and three fours.

Following Rahane’s dismissal, Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh steadied the innings, stitching together a 60-run partnership off 30 balls for the fourth wicket to propel the team’s score to 205. At this very score, Raghuvanshi departed as the fourth wicket, having contributed a knock of 51 runs off 29 balls, featuring two sixes and six fours. Rinku Singh remained unbeaten on 33 runs off 21 balls—aided by four fours—while Ramandeep Singh finished not out on four runs.
