Five killed in plane crash in Brazil

Sao Paulo: Five people were reported killed in a plane crash in Brazil when a twin-engine plane came down in the Amazonian town of Apiacas in Brazil’s Mato Grosso state. The dead included Ernie Spearing, an agri-business owner and former president of the Union Sports Club, his two grandchildren, an employee of his company and the pilot, according to Brazil’s Globonews network. The seven-person twin-engine King Air plane was heading to the city of Rondonopolis after taking off from the Pousada Amazonia fishing lodge when it crashed, according to Xinhua news agency.

Describing the accident, the Brazilian Air Force said that experts from the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center have been sent to Apiacas to investigate the causes of the accident. The accident comes less than a week after a plane operated by the Voyapas air carrier crashed in the city of Vinhedo, killing 62 people.
